If you enjoy mildly-salacious, un-pc, fantasy fiction and are willing to struggle through the writing you might enjoy this. I didn't, I gave up half-way through.

This book is far, far superior to its predecessor, "Forced Mate." I am still wondering how a species so obsessed with sex ever made it into space, but that receded into the background in this book. I haven't read romance novels in twenty some-odd years and the sci-fi romance was a completely new thing to me. I still prefer science fiction that may or may not have some romance thrown in as opposed to romance that has some science fiction thrown in. But, romances do have their place as escapist reading. "Insufficient Mating Material" was very satisfying escapism. I especially liked the fact that the heroine, Martia-Djulia was not a skinny young thing. She is middle aged by Tigron standards and has two grown sons. She was far more interesting than the virginal Djinni-Vera of the first novel. I liked how the relationship between her and Djetthro-Jason developed. It was believable despite the outlandish circumstances. I think I'm going to stick with regular science fiction, but I hope this book can get more women interested in venturing to the science fiction section.

Ache. My head aches. I tried this author again and what do I get? A huge, steaming pile of...yeah you get the point. I'm actually trying to forget this whole disaster. Fat chance of that. Moreover, why are the same people reviewing her books? Why is she 5-starring her books YET again?

INSUFFICIENT MATING MATERIALA Tricky Experiment “Maybe, sweetheart, we should have sex to prove to you that you can and will enjoy it.” “I enjoyed it once. I am very happy with my memories. I don’t need you or your experiment to prove anything,” she said stiffly. “Once?” He raised an eyebrow. His lips twitched. Too late, Martia-Djulia realized that she had just contradicted one of her earlier statements. “The Aim of the Experiment is to discover whether or not we are sexually compatible,” Djetth said loftily. She suspected that he was amusing himself by parodying a formal checklist. “Method: to have mind-blowing recreational sex using positions and techniques that mitigate or avoid unfortunate consequences. Expected result--” “What unfortunate consequences?” “Insects in your hair?” he teased. “Sand in your baby box. A baby. Infection. Injury. Legal consummation of a Mating we might not want.” His gaze flickered. Martia-Djulia had the impression that his list was deliberately ordered. “Injury to whom?” she asked, ignoring the glossed over “baby.” “I’ve wondered why you haven’t blasted me backward onto my butt since our Mating Day. I’ve certainly deserved it.” “Yes you have!” she agreed heatedly.ISBN 0-505-52711-1***** Five Stars!Excellent adventure and highly recommended!~ Detra Fitch, Huntress ReviewsThis book has one of the best ending sequences. … Ms. Cherry has created a seriously evil villain. … Trust me, Insufficient Mating Material is a book you don’t want to miss. Rowena Cherry has done it again! Her first book in this series, Forced Mate, made a fan out of me so I knew this one, Insufficient Mating Material, would be another great read. I wasn't wrong! This reader rarely goes for science fiction material, but anything Ms Cherry writes I will read, and you should as well. Sensual, funny and highly imaginative, you feel as though you are there, in space, outside of this earthly existence. All I can say is: where is the next book in the series, Rowena? I'm ready to read!

Kind of silly and a poorly explained "world". Action did not seem to flow. Maybe if I would have read the first book in the series it would have made more sense to me. But I'm not interested enough to do so.

Perhaps it's because I didn't read the first book in the series but I just couldn't get into this book. I kept asking questions like "Who's speaking?", "How are the characters related?", "Is this supposed to make sense?". Sorry not my style I guess.

I rated this -5 stars. I only read this because my 'ex' friend saw my review on Forced Mate and said this one was better. It was better at making me what to stop reading forever. This is the age old I got a girl preggo so now i have to marry her EXCEPT Cherry writes like i did when i was in high school. her sentence structure is sooooooo pretentious, her writing gives the impression that she's so afraid someone is going to know her work is a pile o' youknowwhat that she has to over explain. I dont fault her for this many authors lack the faith that their readers can produce their own imagery but this is just over kill. I returned the first book to Barnes and Noble and boy am I glad I borrowed this crap from my friend. If times weren't so hard I would have burned this book and Forced Mate along with that deplorable A Rice make a long review longer.......Don't read any of her books they inhale profusely in a negative manner (something i could imagine Cherry to write), in short they SUCK! P.S. I stopped half way may have sucked less but i wasnt going to hang around to find out.

Picks up where "Forced Mate" left off, only the couple being focused on switched. Clearly a "couple-a-book" style romance series. Not usually my favorite type of series, but that is neither here nor there.Commander Jason and Julia hook up in this one. Only Julia doesn't know Jason is Jason. A little corrective surgery for the broken jaw plus a little cosmetic surgery to remove his facial scar. Then, for most of the book, it's stranded on a desert island with the boy knowing the girl, but the girl not knowing the boy. Can he win her heart a second time?If you ignore the SF aspects, it's a pretty formulaic romance. I enjoyed most of the SF aspects, although the names were a bit much and the history lesson at the end of the book gave me a headache. Always worry when the author needs to include supplementary material to be able to follow along. Overall, light and easy read.

Well darlings, the Djinns have a problem. Seems none of their women do what their supposed to. Princess Martia-Djulia actually bails on her own wedding because of a one night stand she had. Now that one night of fun was part of a complicated assassination attempt in Forced Mate (2004). I recommend you read that one first so you can enjoy this one more...For the entire review please go to the Best Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Review site on the web, Bitten By Books  for the review of Insufficient Mating Material in it's entirety. You won't be sorry.

OK - I didn't actually read it. I started to read it, but just couldn't be bothered. I'll admit I hadn't read the first book in this series, so I didn't really understand some of the attitudes of the characters at the beginning. But nothing about the story grabbed me. Life is too short to struggle through a story in which you have no interest. I have too many 'good' books piled up awaiting my selection :)
